In 1987, Eric Larson (President), Chuck Hawley (Vice President), Tim Cordova (Treasurer), Tom "Mitch" Mitchell (Secretary), along with other committee members, Susan Livingston, Jose Ponce, James Gerrish, John Cline, and George Gesner, (If I have missed anyone please email me - These are the names mentioned in the First Awards Banquet Program) - set out to achieve networking among recording studios and other industry professionals in order to create a climate of professionalism and artistic excellence within the New Mexico music community. The result was the New Mexico Music Industry Coalition "MIC" Awards (now know as the New Mexico Music Awards).

I was a member of the awards committee from 1987 to 1993 and from 2002 to 2006. I have published a history page of the awards winners of all 20 years. As much as I could acquire.
